302 Stainless Steel Alloy

302 Stainless Steel Alloy

302 Stainless Steel Alloy, better known as 18-8, reflects its chromium and nickel composition. 302 falls under the Stencil Grade Alloy family that is known for being easily machinable and resistant to corrosion; additionally, 302 is also a member of the Stainless Steel 300 Series. This alloy presents a unique compromise, possessing deep drawability and sufficient stretch formability. Being more stable than 301 stainless steel, 302 reflects a less noticeable, but still significant work-hardening response.

This alloy’s corrosion resistance makes it effective for use in the food, dairy, and chemical industries. 302 is also useful in cold rolled temperatures for spring and stamping applications. Other applications include bellows, springs, laminated couplings, camera shutter parts, and more.

302 possess an effective oxidation resistance in temperatures up to 1650 degrees Fahrenheit with continuous exposure; on the other hand, this alloy has good resistance up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit in cases where cyclic heating occurs. We have 302 stainless steel alloy as well as other stencil grade metals available in sheet or coil form.
